On May 29th, a group of over 30 committed GMS students fasted for 30 hours as part of a fundraising effort to support our school in Lui Namabunga, Senanga Zambia.
This was an overnight event at GMS where students had to meet a $100 fundraising obligation. The night was spent enjoying activities organized by Ms. Klinger and a bowl of plain white rice for dinner served by Ms. Cimbaro.
Our goal is $5000 which will be given to VIDEA to complete and furnish the school. For more info on the Siteo school see the link at the left. CHECK BACK SOON TO SEE HOW MUCH WE RAISED!
Special thanks to Mr Greer, Mrs Zuyderdyn, and Ms Turner for helping supervise the overnight part of the evening.
Our most recent awareness and fundraising initiative was a Night Out For Homelessness on April 9th.

30 GMS student raised a minimum of $100 each for Kelowna's Gospel Mission. They stayed overnight at the school for an evening of fun and activities. As part of the awareness campaign, we camped outside (in -4 degree temperatures) against the building from midnight to 2am to get a brief taste of what homeless people in our town experience.
A total of $3410 was donated to Kelowna's Gospel Mission on behalf of Glenrosa Middle School to help the homeless in our community
All students who participated had a great time and found it a rewarding experience.

The first ever Pink Shirt Day on April 14 was a big success. The day is held nationwide as an awareness capaign against bullies. Its origins come form Nova Scotia where a male student was targeted for wearing a pink shirt to school. In response, a group of students provided their classmates with 50 pink dollar store t-shirts in a show of support for the bullied student. It has quickly grown to a cross-Canada movement and all SD#23 schools participated this year.
